Oh great thanks for the reply - the #4 rifle at 44 1/2 would be a perfect fit as the box is 45-inches. I will track one down and try it on for size to see how the center support works on the lower action. A next step will be to find out what to do with such a crate

If he's able to get ten of any kind of rifles into that box I'd like to see it. No one here seems to be able to get past the mind set that's it's a rifle crate, which it isn't, never was.

If the arms crate is 55.875 inches long its probably a shipping crate for Pattern 1914 Enfields. I understand a lot of the Model of 1917 Enfield shipping crates were converted to M1903 Springfields by shortening the crates by 5 7/8 inches.
