When I went to pick up the M1920 rifle rack, the lady left a note and asked if I was interested in obtaining this crate. After taking a look, it also followed me home.
According to the label inside, it would hold either 10 M1903s or 10 M1922s. The label was dated 1931, as you can see in the picture, and the label (if not the crate) apparently originated at Springfield Armory. Note that, even though the term "M1" was listed, it described the type of rifle crate, not what was held inside.
As many of the wood "spacers" inside appear brand new, I'm guessing someone made these up well "after the fact". Although I was able to get some of my Springfields inside for a picture, I don't think I had the spacers but in correctly. If anyone has some pictures (or expertise) in this area, let me know.
