Colt 1911 Barrel Information Needed
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and would like to get started with a question regarding my early issue Colt US Army 1911 sn# 60xxx. The barrel markings are Colt 45 Auto the letter P and a capital G which I believe to be a WW2 issue. I recently came across a barrel marked with the letters H P on the top of the chamber and no other markings visible. Would this be the proper barrel for my 1911? I look forward to your responses.
Thank you,
Mike

You are correct that the COLT .45 AUTO is a WWII barrel. There are three variations of the H P barrel, and the correct barrel for your serial number range would be the horizontal H and P (or P and H) which are separated, or in other words, they would read right side up with the muzzle pointed to the right.

Hi,
It appears I'm in luck, the barrel I was looking at is exactly as you've posted. The gentleman that has it wants a bit over $200.00 for it, but at this point I'm not going to quibble. I've looked for a decent example for a good while. Thank you very much for your quick response and added photo.

That price is reasonable for a horizontal H P barrel......

Mr Mike your WWII barrel is exactly what I need for my 1942 Colt. If you have any interest in selling it I'm interested. Thanks
