Fulton Armory Barrel
I bought 3 demilled M1 carbine barrels from Fulton Armory. After clean up they will measure 14.7" and i will pin or weld and extension on it to make it a legal length. Anyone have any info on doing this? Thanks in advance

hobberdobber,
Welcome to the forum. There is good group of guys who frequently some here.
Personally I have never needed to extend a barrel. I'm sure someone here has done or attempted it and will chime in. We do have a search feature above in the tool bar. It can help answer some questions.
This places lives on pictures. The bulge is of interest. Also barrel markings, is it an import?
Enjoy our forum.

Shoot for 16.15" minimum to be on the safe side. I assume you know that a barrel is measured by rodding it with the bolt in battery. There are two ways to do it and any steel pipe-like object can serve as a barrel extension. Many would use a flash hider or muzzle brake of the appropriate length. To do this, the barrel must be lathed to properly crown the cut and thread for the FH. After the FH is threaded on and timed (if applicable) and the barrel length double-checked, the FH is drilled for installation of a pin that extends into the barrel and locks the FH in place. Then the head of the pin is welded and ground flush. The other way is to crown as above, then use a slip-on attachment which would be welded all around or brazed after being checked for barrel length, straightness and timing.
If you wish to accommodate a standard M1C front sight behind the extension, the barrel could be machined for that while it is chucked up in the lathe. That dia. is about .580". The dia. behind the sight cut is about .600". Either dia. will take 1/2x28 threads which fit many flash hiders/brakes. I can think of one company that does this kind of barrel work and has a national reputation, and that is ADCO.

Thanks and rebarrel
Jim & inland44
sorry for the slow thanks for the information. I think I'm going to install the barrel my self after I crown and lengthen it. I'm now in the process of acquiring all the information I can about how to do it.
Thank You again

I was looking at those barrels a while back . Are they de milled by having the chambers drilled though ?

No, they were just "shortened"

The barrels were shortened by shearing the end thereby shorting the barrel to about 14 + or - inches. Part of the end of the barrel is squashed and has to be cut to the round point.

Hey, I think this will be my 1st post. Edited: well 2nd post. KB
I used one those barrels on an M1A1 build several years ago. I got the barrel from a guy on GunBroker. It already had a cut down 5 slot inch FAL flash hider tack welded on it. I thought it made the barrel too long.
Cut the tack weld and re-threaded the barrel for an extended M16/AR15 flash hider. Used a blind pin and weld. While it's not stock, it doesn't look too bad.
After all, its a parts gun with a repo stock. Hangs out in the side box of my work truck.
I'll try to post a picture of what it looks like. I think I even have a picture of the barrel with the FAL flash hider on it.

It would sure look different with that FN bayonet on it.
