Great Gunshow find...

Found a compete, un-opened wooden CASE of Western 00 buck US property ammo. 500 rds in boxes of 25. Looks to be at least Pre-WWII... The shipping label states it came from "Surplus Army Sales" from Harrisburg, Pa. Any ideas on date of manufacture???
(No, I didnt open the case, the single box came with it. Evedently the guy had a couple of the cases at one point...)

Many years ago I too purchased a complete case of 500 shells. My case is different in that it was re-packed in 1944 in a military wooden crate. Same box same markings...paid the guy $400 back then for the entire thing. The wooden crate I got had bolts with wing nuts on top and when you opened the crate inside was a metal box (sealed) with yellow writing on the outside basically mimicking the writing on the wooden crate. BTW Those shells are early WWII not WWI,

Are there any martial markings (crossed cannons, flaming bombs) that would indicate this crate was accepted by the military? I've got an empty crate (#9cs) with similar markings and crossed cannons on the end label.

Great find Phrogpilot, for sure don't open the case as the value is in it being sealed as original. Hope I can find something like that someday. Just store it cool and dry.
