    41 winchester

I am talking to my dealer about a 41 Winchester it came out of an estate of a long time collector that he purchased. There was a treasure trove of stuff in the estate that you do just not see like NIW 45 holsters. Anyway this Winchester as far as what I have been told it is correct except for the no trap butt stock has been replaced with a WW11 SA buttstock and buttplate, it has a short pinion but with a lock bar instead of a flushnut and one of the adjustment knobs is not the checkered type. the bore is nice it gauges out good but is is dark. My dealer thinks it has not been messed with much except for things like the stock that were probably done in the field. He wants 2500 for it this is this way out of sight I would like to have a 41 Winchester but not if I could not get my money back if I decided to sell it. I wanted to get some opinions before I decide to go look at it.

    1941 Winchester

    Things to check:

    1. check the receiver for anneal color - sunlight is best

    2. check the op rod for relief cut

what is the approx serial number range ? there were alot of changes in 1941Attachment 18713

There's a lot more to it than "just the stock and checkered sight knob" which are two big items. Internals, gas cyl assembly and other items that depend on the serial number range. Without photos, not much can be explained. Are you sure it's a short pinion?

I agree with Ramboueille and can bet it has been put together. You cant be half pregnant and most of the dealers stories are I hate to say. Be careful as you are really only buying a receiver when you think about it. It also should not have a chrome gas port and should probably have a long spline and pad in the gas port area. Rick Bicon

On another note I may be selling a 4 digit winchester if this 1965 corvette comes through. It is all correct with unmodified stock. It will be a bit more than 2,500 though. Rick B

Absolutely. Get us a serial number and we can tell you much more. If it has a type 1 lockbar that is definitely too early, but that and a trapdoor stock were common "battlefield upgrades", so to speak. If substantially original on the top half or even just correct, then you have to consider condition which can really get interesting as they get closer to the high end.

Neat possiblity and it is fun to consider, but try to be realistic and not get your hopes too high. Many of these earliest rifles really look like they went thru a war ... (ahem) ....
