Here's another, "What have I got here?" thread. Fairbairn-Sykes 3rd. pattern dagger

    OK, here's another head-scratcher that I'm trying to research. It's a 3rd. pattern
Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife, that's a given. The stamps on the cross guard indicate that it was Indian Army ("I" for Ishapore) and the standard "crows foot" shows military issue. I've put this out on gunnutz, blade forums, and have yet to see another one or get an answer to 2 questions. No one can tell me definitively if it was chromed or nickeled for parade use or if it was sold out of service and refinished for the civilian market. The grip is that horrible zinc alloy, the cross guard is brass (under all that finish) and I was told that the scabbard is actually from a Germanicon trench/fighting knife, even though it's a good fit, if a little snug. Any knowledgeable input would be most appreciated. Google has been a great source of information, but this particular piece didn't show up in any search parameters I could think of. There was an English site that seemed to have the same dagger in one of their pics, but they didn't bother to respond to my request for information. Anyone???

Your best bet might be to drop Roy Shadbolt a line (http://www.wilkinsonfscollection.com).
Roy is a leading authority on all things FS and I've always found him very helpful.

It's a third pattern F-S fighting knife as you've guessed. The scabbard appears to be a Germanicon boot knife scabbard. I'm betting it is.

    3rd Pattern F/S

Pretty sure mine is a 3rd pattern as the OP's is though it appears their F/S is fully chromed. I am not that clued on them but I think the 1 on the pommel denotes the handle mould and the "Englandicon" on the cross piece denotes it was sold as surplus not sure on that one either.
The tabs have been removed from the scabbard as allot of them did this the blade whilst not razor sharp is exceedingly pointy the blade colour is as issued its a pretty nice addition though I got caught in a bidding war which took care of a good few dollars.

From my library is this book you need to acquire to complete that little part of your collection.

    Thank you all!

I was in communication with Mr. Shadbolt, and he was most helpful. So! Here's the consensus. My dagger was indeed Indian Army issue originally. Probably sold out of surplus and finished in bright nickel plating along with, and mated to, a Germanicon fighting knife scabbard. So, no military collectible value really but more of a curio and for sure not common here in Canadaicon.
