Six pointed Star marking on Sten mag.
While cleaning the storage grease off this Sten mag today, I noticed that it has a six pointed star marking on the casing but no other markings apart from on the end cap. I have looked up info on old threads and it does seem to have been mentioned before but no conclusions seem to have been drawn. Any other markings that may have been present could have been lost in a refurb. The construction looks the same as some U.K. made mags but I wondered if it's Israeli made or refurbished? I obtained it at a recent militaria fair here in the U.K.. Thanks for any information.

66 is now known to be Lee and BEILIN which sounds like it could be a good Jewish name, although I don't know. Could this be the answer?

I haven't got a clue as to the origins of this mag and am open to any suggestions. I waded through a large box of Sten mags, all covered in grease, and picked out 4 that seemed like the most interesting and in the best condition. I only noticed the star today when cleaning off the grease. Another one I picked out was an Indian reduced capacity mag, although it had no internals, I will replace them.

The Indian modified magazines have a modified follower (platform) and a shortened spring.

Thanks Vincent, I didn't realise that but I do also have another complete reduced capacity Indian mag so can copy/modify the replacement parts.

Are you SURE about that Vincent. In theory and mechanically that shouldn't/cant(?) be because even with modified 20 rounds the internal configuration it STILL means that the 20 rounds press the platform and spring the same distance as a normal magazine. That means that it has to extend the same distance as a normal spring to feed the last round. The platform is recessed to reduce side friction and the recess clears the brass rubbing strips. Or am I missing something.
Lee Enfield, thread 4....... does this have any bearing on the manufacturer? Or just an observation?
Just out of interest Vince, I put a £5 on a horse named Vincente on todays Grand National. Guess what? Yep......... I'm £5 poorer! It fell at the first fence. Mind you, it did take my wife's horse with it when it did.

I pulled a complete reduced capacity Indian Sten mag apart this afternoon. What Vince says appears to be spot on, the spring is significantly shorter, the top of the platform has been flattened off and the bottom of the legs of the platform have been reduce in length slightly. There doesn't appear to be an issue with a standard platform clearing the brass rods inside the mag body.

I am just going by observation, Peter. The ones I have all have a shortened spring and flattered platform.
The single-stack converted magazines have very little internal friction compared to the double-stack of the normal Sten magazines. So, I am guessing they need less spring force to feed the rounds.
The shortened spring also makes hand loading easier without a loader.
Are they 20 rounds or 19? I gave up trying to get 20 in.

Better luck next time. Peter. I like the name Cocktails At Dawn. You can’t go wrong with cocktails at any time of day.
