5-1-2009 1st Trip to CMP South Store
I drove the 100ish miles today to the CMP South store for the first time and got back home about 2 hours ago.
I picked up 2 of the .30 ammo cans of the HXP ammo, plus a new stock with the metal installed and a Criterion barrel. Should've bought one of the $100.00 barreled receivers but funds only go so far.
It was a slow Saturday at the store according to the guy behind the counter, so I did have an opportunity to talk to him for a bit. He told me that 'they' are in the process of building up some 'very nice' rifles. They will be built up using Criterion barrels, with new wood, and freshly reparkerized parts and will sell for $999.00.
I will be going back.

Those are probably the SA Specials that used to go for $875.

The CMP specials are a fine rifle. I would order a Service Grade or two Field Grades.
I hope the CMP finds more of the Corrects.

Correct Grades
The Corrects were probably the best buy to come along in the last ten years if you were collector. Shooters could do with a good Service Grade, of which there was an abundance for a while. The Corrects were such nice rifles and the price is almost double from gunshow prices I saw a couple of weekends ago. One was offered for $1995 and had a certificate that indicated a Correct rifle.
There was some hope these would last longer, but apparently shooters and collectors recognized a great deal when it was at hand. My wife always asks why I thought I needed six of them and I tell her it's because she went along on each trip and kept me from buying my yearly limit at one time..
I hope they find some more as well.
