    Unhappy Pattern 14 questions

Sitting here with 2 p14s that I bought last year and trying to find info on them is proving difficult. One has an S on the barrel with a serial # W168569. according to what I find the S means it was built by Savage, but they didn't build p14s. It is the only 303 that I have seen without 303 stamped on it. Any answers on this would be appreciated. The other one has R E on the barrel and serial # 107225 and the barrel is 23 in. Were any of these rifles cut down or has someone else done it?

The barrel with the "W" prefix before the serial number is of Winchester manufacture, the "RE" marked barrel is Remington. To the best of my knowledge, the military did not cut down any of these, they would have been done after they left service.

Winchester barrels, receivers and bolts would normally have MNS (Midvail Nickle Steel) stamped on them. Perhaps the S you mention is part of that stamping? Pictures will sort the issue very quickly.

    Remington

Pictures of the Remington. Thinking of using it to build a 338 of some kind

I don't know what the "S" means...However, Your Winchester P14 has it's original Winchester produced barrel. Your Remington has it's original Remington Produced barrel.
