Help needed for an unknown rifle

A friend of mine found a rifle under her moms bed after her death. She asked me to help her with it, so I am turning to the pros for help. First, let me say that I do not think that it is a Mauser. The rifle has a large S cartouche with 3 lines coming off of the top of it inclosed in a shield type shaped box with a 43 below the cartouche. This is on the Right side of the stock. The stock is full length. On the barrell, just ahead of the bolt it is marked with an s in what looks some what like a sunburst circle, SKY in capital letters, serial number 508266, and 1943. There is the number 65 behind the front sight. All of the serial numbered parts match. The rifle is is fair shape at best. Any ideas on make and value?. It looks like a $100.00 wall hanger to me!. Thanks for any help that you can provide. Tom Erickson

Finland made many fine rifles 1925-1945. You have a Finnishicon Mosin-Nagant rifle. Picture will help to pin it down.

I wish everybody would at least reveal the country in which they live, as that is very relevant for questions of rarity, value, parts sources etc. Not knowing whether you live in Alaska or Argentinaicon, I can only say that here in Mauserland a Finnishicon Mosin-Nagant in good shooting condition is MUCH more valuable than a Russianicon example, and is NOT a 100euro/dollar wallhanger.

Thanks for the help. In the light of day I found a CAI import stamp on the barrel. It is a $100.00 rifle. Thanks, Tom
