Picked up a 1903 project
Picked this 1.4K Springfield 1903 up today for $200. Barrel ( S.A. 10-44) is mirror bright, looks brand new. Externally, its in pretty good shape with some minor surface rust that cleaned up no problem. It came in what looks to be a Remington 1903A3 stock, which had the very front portion cut off for some reason.
....May try and fix it - for a shooter, and save it for an A3 action some day....
As for the barreled action, I have a nice Keystone C stock just sitting in the safe at the moment...![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Someone scribed some info under the rear sight base...Wondering when it was done...Looks to be an SN, followed by an SSN, followed by " WWII, Perry, Michael, and Aaron Cooksey (or Coorsey)

If I am reading the SSN correctly (272) that it would be for some one in Ohio.

You are correct, it is an Ohio SSN. Which just so happens to be where I am from, and where it was purchased from as well.

Not sure of its origins. I bought it from a private sale.
