This One Looks Pretty Good

The below Gunbroker auction is for a non-import 6.9 Inland that appears to be stone original and in pretty darn good condition, at least as far as I can see based upon the few not-so-good photos provided. When this was first posted he had not included the last pic of the handstamped M1 on the chamber. That had me concerned. It looks pretty good to me. The whole thing looks pretty good to me. If real, and I believe it is, it should go pretty high I would think. What say all?

False alarm. I thought I originally recalled that this auction listed a 3-45 dated Inland barrel but that is not the case The barrel must be a replacement (probably SA). Sorry, a senior moment. ChipS

I received notice of this thread by email and purposely looked at the GB auction before coming back here to look at any posts. I'm kinda out of practice, and enjoyed looking at the auction and testing what little bit I've learned (and haven't forgotten) in the past couple years. I figured an undated barrel might be OK, but not unmarked. It looks like there may be some rust around the barrel band and bayonet lug - maybe even on the barrel. Also am going by the rust on the sling, but maybe it's been changed out since it looks like the early type. I looked at some of his revolver auctions and the pictures are of about the same quality - most could stand to be a bit better, but doubt the "quality" is intentional. I hope someone comments on the appearance of the hand stamp - seems a bit odd to me, but really know very little about them. Thanks for posting, you are excused for the senior moment! - Bob

He did not show the hand stamp when the auction was first listed and I would swear he initially listed the barrel as 3-45, but maybe not. I think the hand stamp looks like the tech mis-struck the first 1 over the M and then hit it again down and right where it could be seen. It's hard to tell but it doesn't appear to be filed (removing a 2). I don't see anything that would make me believe it was a filed and restruck M2. The mis-struck and restruck 1 seems perfectly plausible to me. I would like to see the top of the barrel behind the sight.

I think its a good hand-stamp. Probably a great shooter and a good price - so far!

Without knowing what is inside, I don't think it should go much higher.

I tend to believe the mis-stamped therory too, but it's not a guaranteed thing either. The "1" has the normal Inland font you look for, but without more detailed pictures, it's hard to tell. Does anyone believe the stamped area in question looks to be through the finish and done recently? If the barrel is Inland, I can see it going for twice the current price of 580 and more maybe. It's a shame it has so many questions about it though. It has just enough of "been there, done that" look for me, which is important when I look at carbines.

I agree. Most guys around here call it just enough "character". If you want a mint (re)finish buy a Blue Sky!!!
