Looking to purchase a 1943 Lithgow. What parts have serial numbers on this model? Anything in particular I should look for? Thanks

Well, of course, look to see that bolt matches receiver, etc, but also look UNDER the bolt handle for a 'batch number', I believe it's called. There should be a matching number on the side of the bolt track. It will be under where the bolt handle is at rest. (or down) Also, look all over the thing for a 'JJCO' import mark. This is the Jon Jovino company that imported large numbers of Aussie parts and rifles in the late 80s, early 90s..Aussie SMLEs have copper recoil plates in the forestock, as the wood used by them tended to split sometimes, hence the need for these little plates. Jovino rifles are notorious for not having these for some reason. They were also notorious for slapping together rifles out of these parts and selling them as original rifles. Which is why you have to check those numbers I mentioned. I've had a few legitimate Jovino rifles, they did import some, but you really have to check these out! Hope the purchase turns out well for you!
