I picked up this #4MK1 this past summer at a local flea market. I had been watching it for several week. I looked down the bore and it was filthy and full of crud. The price started out at $180. After several weeks the price had dropped to $150. I took a bore snake with me and ran it down the barrel. Perfect and shined like a new dime. I offered the seller $140 and he took it home.
It is a all matching (except mag) 1944 Maltby without a import mark. The finish is very good not worn or faded. I read a thread on another form about these sporters. They were imported in the early 60's as sporters. My plan is to put her back in unirorm and ready for duty again. I have picked up new Beach hand gaurds. I am looking to find new or very good forstock and long buttstock in Beach. I will then need to get the remaining furniture. I will reuse the butt plate and rear sling swivel.
One more interesting thing was the cut up strips of cardboad inside the magizine. It looks as though a former owner used them as a plug. I guess this was done to comply with a hunting reg.
