Primer seating question
I use a RCBS hand priming tool to seat my primers in LC 223 brass.
Once a primer pocket start getting loose is there any advantage to using a press instead of the Hand tool as far as will it make the primer fit any tighter if you put more pressure on the primer while seating it?
Thanks
Steven

Once the primer pockets are loose there's not much you can do. Sometimes changing manufacture may help. I use CCI as they seem to be tighter than some other brands.

joem is correct; once a primer pocket is loose - from repeated firings or even one firing with a heavy load - they are loose forever. The type of seating tool you use has no bearing how tight the primer fits; that's purely a fuction of the dimension of the primer pocket. The primer seaters do not squeeze a primer to make it larger in dia.; all they do is seat it to the bottom of the primer pocket.

That confirms what I thought and brass is too cheap to risk a loose primer floating around in the action during a match. I am already using CCI 41 primers.
Thank you both for clear answers.

"...am already using CCI 41 primers..." You don't need those, they're just a marketing gimmick for small rifle magnum primers. However, as mentioned, once a primer pocket is loose, it stays loose. Pitch the case. .223/5.56 cases don't make great drawer pulls either. Maybe for a small drawer though.
