Early Type 99 Cloth Tag (Pics Included)-What Is It???
Recently bought an early Type 99 (Nagoya Arsenal-Series 3) and it has a cloth tag on the front sling swivel. I have included pictures. This is the first Arisaka I have encountered with this cloth tag. Thanks!

Iron....
Nice tag! I have sent this thread to a friend of mine... perhaps he will chime in with what he thinks! I haven't seen any with tags, so you have a nice find!!
Any history with the rifle? Or was this a purchase NOT from the original owner/ family?

I got this from a WW2 vet that was stationed overseas and brought it back at the end of the war. He said he fired it once when he got home. He tied it to an apple tree and hid behind another tree and pulled a string. I was at a local gun store when he was taking it in to get some money and the cloth tag caught my eye. Needless to say, I immediately went over to him and told him I could do better than what the store was going to pay him. LOL

If you recollect ANY details that the Gent gave you, I would write them down, and attach to the rifle. That way it gives SOME historical provenance to the rifle. I have done this techique with ANY rifle I get from an "owner"....
Meanwhile, hopefully my friend will chime in some time!
