1943 jeep/saddle scabbard
I was looking over my 1903 saddle scabbard it has a faint stamp on it. Looking at it under a light with a mag glass it appears to be 1943. Would that not be kind of late for a 1903 scabbard?

Assuming your not mistaking it for a Garand saddle scabbard, it sounds funny.
Can you post pics? Manufacturer mark? 1918 is a very common date.

It is not a garand scabbard. As best that I can make out the stamping is a large US then 3 lines top line is J another letter I can not make out and then M D second line 1943 3rd line E.M. 9 or I think it is a 9 I can not tell for sure

It seems that you are not alone. I found an old auction with one like yours. US, 1943, JQMD, inspectors initials E.N.S.
US CAVALRY M1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE SCABBARD JQMD 1943
The Jefferson Quartermaster Depot made all kinds of leather goods for the military.
Your scabbard is about as late as they come, I think most of the cavalry was "dismounted" in 1943.
