    1911a1

I have a 95% 1911A1 S/N 749XXX made in November, 1941. Seems to be all original. Matching slide S/N. RS inspected with additional G stamps----except for the barrel----it has the letter F. Is it a relpacement barrel? Thanks.

F marked Colt barrels came later, your RS Colt should have a Small G marked Colt barrel to be correct

What do you mean by, "additional G stamps"

If the F is on the lug, it would be a Flannery barrel which would be a late RR or Ithaca barrel.

Thanks Duane. The F stamp is located on the underside of the bbl, forward of the lug.

The G stamp (only one--sorry) is located next to another RS stamp on the top of the frame, just forward of the hammer.

That is a Later Colt barrel that I spoke of in my first post. The Colt barrels with the F forward of the lug were used from about serial number 933,000 and intermixed through to the end of production.

If the frame is Auto Ordnance, the pistol is Auto Ordnance. You will have to decide what it is before any advice can be given on what to do with it.

Thanks Duane. Since my S/N is 749XXX, can I assume that the F marked bbl would be correct for the gun? Thanks for the replies.
