SC and HV barrel markings
My old Mark III BSA 1909 (u 5721) with matching '09 barrel has both the SC and HV stamps behind the rear sight. Was this common on the early rifles to receive both stamps ?Attachment 87317Attachment 87318

SC = Short cone HV = means it is sighted for MK VII ammunition

SC= Small Cone, the area of a chamber that we now know as the neck, nothing to do with the lead (throat in modern language)

To answer your question...it would have been perfectly normal for an early rifle to have both. They would have been stamped as the mods were carried out.
