Donna Hecks pal & bayonet question

We went to the farm today. On the way back, we stopped a John C.s house, he's 86, WW 2 Pacific nose gunner, heard he had fallen in a resturant. He had called Donna earlier in the day. He was able to come out to the truck as we didnt have Donnas wheel chair. In the course of the conversation, he said he had a bayonet for a rifle he knew Donna owned. I went in with him to look at it, turned out to be 1902 bayonet for a Kragicon, complete with metal scabbard, I told him she had gotten an Underwood FA carbine recently & was looking for a bayonet for it.

He insisted on giving me both........no, I wasnt having that. We settled on me giving him some post war Lionel for them. Here is what I got. (see attached pictures) Her rifle is dated 1896. He said to trade it for one made in 1896......should I bother??? Were the guns & bayonets dated that closely??? PJH

I think they'd have been issued as they were made. Later as they were turned in and reissued, they would have been any year and any series as long as they were serviceable.
    Regards, Jim

You might have trouble, anyway, trading a 1902 bayonet for an 1896. The earlier ones tend to command a premium. There seem to be more of the later ones available. As the others said, 1896 rifles got later bayonets if the rifle and the bayonet were pulled from the pile upon re-issue.
