A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The M1859 Sharps. I used to shoot one in competition. Now I have a 2nd Model Maynard.

I always liked the M1859 Sharps. That one seen some use but still in decent shape. My fav carbine of the CW.
I almost bought a 2nd model Manyard it was in excellent condition with bright shiny bore. How do they shoot?

I like it a lot they shoot very well, better than me. They're small and can be kind of awkward. I liked my sharps and wish I'd kept it.

I like the Smith carbine just because it's weird.

For me: the long comb Springfield with the 1877 sights is an excellent target rifle for military competitions, where the Buffington sight is banned by some shooting confederations because it is effectively a peep sight.

Smiths are neat. I need to do some work on that one to make it shoot but I got it cheap and its in great shape.

I had the Springfield for years. Its a great shooter with the right cast loads. Oneday I like to get a trapdoor carbine.

I have always been partial to rolling blocks but I would be very happy to own that M1859 Sharps.

I had a 7mm rolling block long ago. It was in nice shape but the bore was shot out. I traded it for a 73 Winchester. I always wanted a NYS 50 70 rolling block. Seen a few but didn't have the funds.

My Sharps has been there done that. Stock has heavy wear on the other side from rubbing on a saddle I guess. Its built in 61. Also still percussion so probably came home with the vet after the War. All original.
