    Gahendra Martini receiver strength

I'm considering building a custom .303 martini, and I have a chance to get a Nepalese Gahendra action, but, is it going to be anywhere near strong enough to handle the pressure .303 puts out? As I understand it, the Gahendra rifles weren't really a factory production rifle, more of a small shop built affair. I'm curious to see if anyone knows much about them.

I wouldn't waste my money on the project. Ask over on the britishmilitaria website. They can give you the low down on the nepalese rifles. If I were going to build a .303 I would use a good british made receiver.
I do have a nepelese made gahendra, francote and snider rifles, along with a MKII and MKIV.

Thanks, I suspected as much, i just got a line on a rough but complete long lever barreled action that I’m going to look into, hopefully it’ll work out

What about a Kragicon chamber? You can load it to spec and they were lighter pressures too...

That’s an idea, I’m pretty well set on .303 though, I’ve already got a nice little stash of it. And the real kicker is I can use an smle barrel!

I hear you...I'd do a single myself if I could. I'd do a tight chamber to end brass stretching. A Ruger #3 would be my choice though. Then use a full length barrel...

That would make a nice rifle, my plan is to make a really short, really handy "truck gun" that I can lug around with me. Fixed peep sight (like a late arisaka) and barleycorn front. Something simple and rugged, with plenty of style! Planning on doing a stock reminiscent of an MLE with a full length stock.

Consider an FAL folding stock too.

With falling/tilting block action you can a have a long barrel and still have a compact rifle because the action is so short. The peep sight takes some planning as the action usually doesn't have a good place to fit it.

Thanks daan, a fal stock would be cool, I’ll keep it in mind, probably going to stay with a factory style one though. But yes, with a 16” barrel, this rifle is going to be short! I was planning to put the peep sight on the barrel over the chamber, like the later Arisakaicon’s.

I doubt the peep sight will work well that far from your eyes, but a larger hole might do it. Haven't seen one not on the very back of the rifle ever, but is has been used on handguns so it should work.

Peep sight fitted to the stock? The further back the longer the sight radius, theoretically more accurate, especially the short barrel.
