This is a report on the stock stain that forum member USSR has come up with and asked me to try.
I had just bought a few M14 stocks and decided one would be a good canidate for refinishing
I first sprayed it down with Purple Power degreaser and scrubbed with a soft nylon brush , rinsed lightly with hot water then towel dried. I did this process twice. (probably wouldnt do this with a expensive collector stock)
I let the stock set for a few days to make sure it was completely dry . This is what it looked like
I went over it lightly with 150 grit sandpaper just to smooth the raised grain.
I applied the stain with a rag, it went on nicely and only needed one coat. A extremly dry stock may need two.
After letting dry overnight I gave it 4 light coats of BLO over the next few days handrubbing in the last coat.
After letting set another day I gave it a coat of Johnson paste wax.
I really wasnt expecting much with the stain as I normally use a alcohol base stain and mix my own color but I really like the way it turned out.
USSR really has the color perfect.
I'll let the pics tell the story from here but I do recommend this stain, perfect color
