M-39 Sako 1944 Shooting
Took my M-39 to the 200 yd range today, tried some Russian surplus 7.62x54R 149 gr silver tip light ball from Factory 60 made in 1975. It shoots pretty good, about same as my 182 gr Bulgarian yellow tip heavy ball from 1955. The surplus Warsaw Pact ammo makes for good fun at the range. Spent the rest of the time shooting the steel gong. The light ball was very mild to shoot, the heavy ball has much more recoil and hits the steel plate hard and loud.
I have a tall front blade installed that I got from Layne King at Tennessee Gun Parts. That brought my point of impact for a normal point of aim into reality at 200 & 300 yds. There was minimal sight adjustment to stay in the black, raising rear sight slightly, when changing from the heavy ball to the light ball. Rifle, target and ammo are depicted in attached pics.
Incidentially, Layne King owner of Tennessee Gun Parts took over the well known web site, Surplusrifle.com from Jaime Magnum, who had health problems and could no longer maintain it. Then, Mr. King has had some problems and now his business seems to be down. I got this from reading posts by Ed, the moderator over at Surplusrifleforum.com, who has been in communication with Layne and helping guys get back orders filled.
