    Ammo Can Prices

Got a shock today when I went to a local surplus store to buy a couple of 50 cal ammo cans. In late Febuary I bought some from the same store for $7.50 ea, today the price was $15 ea. Store employee said the military is crushing cans now rather than sell them, said the cost to the store is over $9.00 apiece now and that the price has gone up 3 or 4 times since I purchased those last ones. Their 30 cal cans which were $6 in Feb. now cost $7.50. She also said that the govt is destroying the old style cammies rather than sell them.

I often wonder why those cans are not refilled by the gubmint. Instead they are sent to Salvage and sold to dealers.

I like the flare cans better. same construction but larger.

30's and 50's are quite right for me.

One thing I learned the hard way. The bigger the box, the more you can fit inside. The more inside the more difficult it is to handle and the heavier that SOB is to carry!

Maybe de ain't crush'n 'em, but anything going overseas ain't comin' back. I watched a mountain of ammo cans, 200'+ X 200'+ X 25' high as we dug a hole in the desert on the border between Kuwait and Iraq and buried. ..G

They probably don't reuse the cans because each one would have to be inspected for defects, rebuilt as necessary, repainted, repacked and reissued. Probably costs more to do this than to make new ones.

I'm looking for some, what do you have and how much etc? Local gunshop has 50cal cans for $11. Found some slightly cheaper online but when shipping is added it costs much more than the local buy. I need them with good seals for ammo storage,my basement gets pretty damp during the summer.
