I was at Walmart this morning and this cloth caught my eye so I bought a yard. I think it makes a pretty good background.

Uh, the 1942 Navy Colt is kinda cute too!!!

Great picture, John. The background color really brings out the parkerized finish. It looks like your pistol is up above the surface, what do you use to support it, and how high? Thanks.

Here is a different photo and the rig I use to raise it above the background.. I use clear Lucite rods to diffuse the light and reduce shadows.

I appreciate you showing your photo technique to avoid the shadows that are often part of the photographique challenge with these guns.

One of the most difficult parts of the photography of these pieces is not necessarily capturing the markings......it is capturing the markings with as close to the real colour of the finish on these pistols that one might see if held in your hand.

Probably more difficult with a high finish blued gun.
Not easy....the lighting game is a huge challenge.

Nice techniques. You've always had the best photos I've seen from any board.
