Just picked this up today . . .

I posted this on the Mauser board, but figured some might see it only here.

Lud Olson shows this rifle on page 300, however . . . .

My rifle has an "H"-band and attendant bayonet lug. It appears original to the rifle.

Could this be a later modification for German recruit training so as to simulate better training for bayonet use???

Although the bayo lug appears identical to a standard K98icon lug, the hole for the cleaning rod is ONLY in the lug . . . . NOT continuing into the stock's forend. A cleaning rod cannot be installed.

My rifle is in about 95% condition with a PRISTEEN bore.

If the sun ever shines again, I'll be at the range with my new toy. --Jim
