Ruger's "New" AR Rifle
As regards the new Ruger offering of an AR configured rifle, I wondered if anyone had actually seen it or handled it and, if so, what price range is it in?
I am intrigued by the proprietary upper and the gas system employed therein. Is it a new system or a re-do of existing gas systems?
How many configurations are offered? I also saw it was being shipped with two 30-round mags as standard equipment.
Just general reactions if anyone has any would be appreciated. Thanks to any who read and react to my question.

I have not handled or fired a Ruger AR. I have read a few articles. I have read one article that offered a brief firing report. I've no idea if the magazines are standard M-16/AR-15 pattern. It uses a piston rather than gas impingement which is practically an improvement. With a retail price of about $2,000, it is not inexpensive. Except for hard combat use, it may be a solution in search of a problem. JMHO. Sincerely. BruceV.

There is one at a local gun store. It's a little barrel heavy, but it has quad rails. The price is about 1500 to 1600.
Looked well made and handled good.

I've fired one that belongs to a friend at 200 yds. Groups were not what I hoped but I suspect it was the scope, not the rifle, at fault. He'd just received it & the only rings he had were low mounts. This put the scope vey low against the rail & made it difficult to get good sight picture. The owner had already replaced the factory 2-stage trigger (he said it had 7-stages) with a drop in single stage Timmney. MSRP is $1999 which is about $700 more than a comparable AR from S&W.
