it is an FN Herstal ".223 Rem. Sporter".

Granted, these pics are of an FN FNC, but the Sporter is the same, minus the "go fast" switch. It is a side-folder, but with the smaller trigger guard.

A friend has been holding it for ransom...no, strike that, has been holding it as collateral for the owner. It doesn't appear to have been fired and there is no magazine with it (I understand it was designed to work with M-16/AR-15-style magazines). It does have the tool-kit in the pistol grip, the owners manual, the sling, and the original box.

I can find no other information regarding it other than quoted above (and that it first appeared around 1978), not on any of the gun auction sites, active or completed.

Can anyone give me more information about it, and, for my friends sake, an approximate value?

TIA,
Fred
