Presenting the Johnson Method of Musketry Coaching As Adopted By the Canadian Army, Ottawa, Chief of the General Staff.

For those that aren't familiar with this excellent Canadian Government issued training manual, you should at least download and read through the first two chapters being released today. If you are specifically a collector and shooter of Lee Enfield Rifles, you'll find this to be an outstanding reference work and it contains a wealth of information on how to properly shoot the No.4 Mk1 Enfield, although much of the content is applicable to any bolt action rifle. I remember being issued this manual as part of our regimental rifle team, when I was a little younger back in the early 60's.

Ian spent a considerable amount of time professionally scanning and digitizing this book. His work on behalf of the MILSURPS.COM membership is greatly appreciated.

I picked up my copy a few years ago for $15, so I had to proudly show it off to one (OK all) of my "mentors".

Imagine my surprise when the response was "that a**hole!!"

Anyway, my friend of mine has an amusing(?) anecdote on the author.

My friend was suckered c.1950 into the REME weekend warriors by a Sargent who promised him free shooting (he claims they actually paid him to shoot, and he voluntarily completed extra-caricular activities along the same lines).

When my friend started shooting in the early '50s, apparently Johnson liked nothing better than to stomp up and down the firing line kicking or throwing debris ect. towards the tyro shooters in an effort to distract them from their shots.

Supposedly he was quite the terror of the range.

Apparently it was enough to make a 60+ year impression in at least one of the students...

This is an odd co-incidence. I just last week picked up a copy of this same book from the Command Post of Militaria, a military collectibles shop in Victoria BC. Had never seen it before. Great book!

This is a great addition to the Library. When it's posted in it's entirety I'll be making copies for my Ranger Patrol and a copy for our Ranger Instructor NCO's. Someone has to show them the proper way to shoot and handle the No4.
