Price Check
I think this is what this forum is for.....
I paid $250 for this mismatched Savage with a great bore. Wood was replaced with odds and ends, which I refinished since they looked rough and smelled bad. She's a good shooter, but not a collector. I'm thinking of selling this one to finance a nicer, better No.4 with the blonde wood I like so much but want to know if it's worth it.
So, what's the 'CGN' market value on this one?

To keep or not to keep, that is the question.

Tough call ...
You're absolutely right that with the miss-matched legacy condition, plus the addtional replacement component work you've done, she's really valued as a nice shooter, not as a collectible.
Judging from the pics, you've done nice work restoring and making it more attractive.
If it was mine, I would clearly advertise it as a nicely restored "representative" U.S. Savage Enfield, with a bore that makes her a good shooter.
I'd run an ad at CGN and here in the Quartermaster Stores aiming higher than expected at $325 on spec and see what happens......
If she doesn't sell, you can always lower the price $25 at a shot over time and see what happens. Differently from CGN's rules, in our Quartermaster stores, you can always check the "Make me an Offer" box off and see how that fairs. Finally, you can spend a few credits and make it a FEATURED AD here, which with pics will get a lot more up front exposure (including the Main Home Page) than just a regular ad.
I find that if one writes good thorough ads with excellent detail emphasizing the strengths of the item, combined with strong photo montages with a LOT of close-up pics, items sell much quicker and often for higher prices than they would otherwise.
It's incredible how poorly many folks write an ad, then wonder why nobody responds to it ....
I've put your pics over here below, to make it easier for readers of this thread to view and comment.
Hope this helps....
Regards,
Doug

I mostly agree with Doug on the price. Given the general trend upward in LE values and the wide (read inexperienced) audience at CGN, I'd be tempted to list it a bit higher initially. Say $350-375.
Personally, I wouldn't go over $300, but I've already got a couple of shooter No4's. One belongs to the army, but they let me play with it.

I agree with doug. In the future though, you should consider not using a coating finish on your wood. This one looks to be coated with something like polyeurethane or tru-oil or something similar that hardens on the surface. Usina a penetrting oil like boiled linseed oil
is much better choice.
As you have surmised, it's been rebuilt - mostly with British
made parts. I also agree with Doug's valuation.
Finally, if you offer it for a "shipping included" price, I find that help to sell an item.

That's a very good point and something you can use as an enticement....
Also, sometimes adding other "goodies" (like ammo, slings etc) to make a more rounded package, helps mask pricing and you can sometimes get higher values than the item on its own.

I agree. There's a good market out there for shooters, and with a good description and pics it should fetch in the neighbourhood of $300.

Thanks a lot guys. I think I'll try it at $325shipped including a $10 sling I got from TradeEx. It's a good gun, but I want something different.
Now I just have to wait for the right No. 4 to come along. The one at Collector's Source seems overpriced at close to $500. Perhaps P&S will put up pics of those new No. 4's he got.
