bore sight setting up?

I'm tempted to buy one of those brass cartridge looking bore sighters that put a laser beam down the barrel, I'm forever fiddling with the set up on rifles and figure I could save a bit on ammo by getting them better set up before tossing $2 a round down the range.
If I set up the bore sighter, at a 25 yard range, and the beam is straight out of the barrel, do I set the scope on the laser dot, or do I have to allow some height above the dot because of the rise and fall of the bullet?
Is it possible to look at a 303 ballistic chart and simply use the height/distance info or is there a bit more to it than that?

I made all the mistakes with my bore sighter.Measure the centre to centre hight bore to scope place the two marks on a suitable wall where the rifle can be setup laser on the bottom scope on the top one close to the barrel. Fire one shot at 25 to make sure you are on target dont alter hight only windage if needed, go to 100 and fire a group make adjustments as required for POI zero eg 200. I have a very high mounted scope which means i have a problem at close ranges. The range tables help once you have the bore scope measurement factored in.Once the long zero is fixed shoot at closer ranges to see where the rifle prints and be ready for some surprises

And what is wrong with the old fashion military way of sighting in your Enfield Rifle.

25 yard zeroing target, raise the back sight and set at 200 yards the bullets should impact at the top of the half circle intersecting the 200 yard line

The trouble with the chambered lazers is they are calibre specific, and it tends to be costly if you have a number of sizes. There is a cheaper alternative where the lazer fits in the muzzle. It comes with a number of mandrels to fit different bores. Works quite well too.

What's wrong w/ just pulling the bolt out and looking through the bore?!

Granted it won't work w/ Martini-Henrys, but it really does work better than the gimicks sold as long as you're careful.

Actually Im realizing I'd have to also add the height of the scope, aperture sight above the bore line too, as well as bullet flight changes.

and as for the Australian head shot Ed is proposing, its probably the safest side of a man eating drop bear, if only tourists knew how dangerous the ozzie bush can be, lol

Ed is that spike a singer Mk1. The lantern is a good idea but the barrel harmonics will be out of wack so the group shot probably wont hit the barn let alone the koala. Suggest you fix it under the barrel, better still tape a laser under the barrel then your old eyes wont have to strain just point and fire.

I use a laser for 7.62x39. I can't remember the brand but, in the list of calibers, x39 and .303 used the same one.

It gets me on paper vertically just fine. I have to adjust for elevation. I try to get them shootin' about 2 inches high at 25 yards on an indoor range. When Fall arrives, well actually maybe next week, I'll drag a couple faux snipers out to the 'big shootin place' and see what happens at 50 and then 100 yards. It's supposed to be down around 100 degrees by mid next week.
