That is a very nice early Lightow. I for one would like to own one like that.

Interesting. I have 1916 Lithgow, sn. 38741. It was rebarreled in October 1927 but not with a heavy. It's also still stocked in Queensland maple. It's marked to the 5th Military District.

5 MD is my home state. If you want to part with that Lithy i am all ears.

I appreciate the offer but I don't want to sell it right now. It's one of a few decent SMLE's left in my personal collection and I feel lucky to have it. It's the only First War Lithgow I've encountered in my travels with all of it's original features. However, I will give you first shot at it if things change around here.

I had the privilege of visiting the Somme on up to the Salient with Roger Payne and another Gentleman in July to include the Australian memorial. It was agreat and humbling experience. My interest has been generated in studying WW1 and these rifles are such a huge part of that history. Thanks again.

I have a complete 1916 No1Mk111 marked on the butt disc RMC. 5MD marked rifles are like Hens teeth or rocking horse poo to find here. A friend of mine spent years looking for his to go with the 5MD bayonet he has.

I imported mine from Canada several years ago. It was sitting in a rack with several others in various states of repair and no one wanted it. There was also a 1916 Enfield SMLE Mk.III with cutoff but no provision for volley fire sights, also all matching and original in nice condition. I grabbed it too and it still resides here. I was going to have it set up as a sniper but didn't have the heart as it was so darned original and never rebuilt! I'd rather use a rifle that's an obvious rebuild or restoration for a project like that. Down here in the SE USA, decent original SMLE's are as rare as rocking horse manure.

I also have a 1916 H-barrel Lithgow.All matching with muse special sight.
It is marked 2MD.nice queensland maple.

Anyone know why there is another serial # stamped on the receiver and a matching one on the butt stock?Renumbered when converted to H?







The other pic is also a 1916 H-barrel that I restored.It was only a barreled action with the original H marked butt.The barrel was cut down and the charger bridge was removed.

that is an extremely nice rifle. I once had a chance to buy a 1915 Lithgow that was all matching and was complete with cut-off and volley sights. it was also stocked in beutiful queensland maple. the bore on it was amazing to and so was the headspace.
