A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I asked this guy about his Carbine. Here is the reply he sent me. Sounds like he doesn't care much for the CC club either.

    Hello,
Did you know that many people believe there were several different serial number groups. Nothing was written in stone on any Carbines, they didn't know they were building collector items. They thought they were building weapons for our troops, and couldn't care less about serial numbers groups.
The guys that wrote the books you're reading admit all their numbers were approximations, with nothing to back them up. The guys in the Carbine club think they have all the answers, yet they are proven wrong quite often.
    Thanks for your interest.

EEEEEYIPE! If that one isn't a poorly done put together, I'll eat my hat and my CC membership too! If I just listed what I see wrong with that carbine, it would take an hour to write it all down!

    Wink

Yikes! It's at $2600 now. I'm kicking myself in the rear for not jumping on the postwar rebuild Underwood with brand-new folding stock I saw at a gun show yesterday for only $2300. What a fool I was, the rare Underwood variant is likely worth MUCH more than a comparable Inland! Live and learn . . .

    Just trying to learn

    Hi all,

I'm new to carbines and waiting on my CMPicon Underwood.

I just trying to learn here so I'm just asking question as I go. If this was an original WWII M1A1icon, why was the stock modified for an M2 selector without the type 3 band and adjustable rear sight also installed?

Is there anyway, a carbine would have been converted to M2 without the other upgrades?

    Thanks.

    bfayer,
Is there anyway, a carbine would have been converted to M2 without the other upgrades?
Not likely, unless it was a garage conversion by 'Bubba'. This one was cut away nicely, I'd say it's just a replaced stock.

I give ole DIPP credit........he did a fairly nice patch job on the M2 cut out.
How many times have we seen this guy part a carbine together?
Then list it and watch the 'SHILL BID' game begin?
You'll always see someone with 0,1 or 2 feedbacks open the bidding, then another takes over pushing the bid $$.

He's got smarter now.......he waits until his past buying transactions are dropped because of age. Then lists his wares. I guess it gives him time to part these together.
