    Reno gun show finds....

    Hello,

Just got back from the Crossroads of the West gun show in Reno, didn't see that many L.E.s, but there was a No.7 with chest (can't remember the price) and a target L.E. N0.4 Mk1* Longbranch 1943 (I think) with a Parker Hale sight going for $2600 (slightly out of my price range). I did see a nice No.4 Mk.1 that had undergone FTR in 1949 (wasn't upgraded to mk.1/2 - is that common, seeming that the Mk.s 2, 1/2 and 1/3 were introduced in 1949?), and it had an S&K mount with a decent 4-10X40 scope for $250. I'm thinking of buying the rifle, nabbing the scope and mount for my Longbranch, slapping on a Mk.I rearsight and selling the rifle on. Bad idea or good idea?

    I think that's beyond anyone's price range!

Ok, bought myself a Lee Enfield No.4 mk.1 F(FTR)49, serial number AP65**, originally manufactured in 1943, fitted with an S&K instamount and a Vision Plus 4-12x40 scope, all for the grand total of $275 (including the Brady check). The rifle did not come with a rear sight, but I already have my eye on a suitable one. The rifle is in very good condition with some very slight wear, and the wood is in very good condition (doesn't look like it has been sanded either). The bore, I am surprised to say, is almost mirror-like (after running a clean pull-through through the barrel), and I think I got a pretty good deal. The proof will be on the range

They charge for the background checks? Not very nice of 'em!

A good MkI sight sounds ideal. Don't forget the cross pin (the short name for it) and the plunger and spring that goes underneath. All easily obtained.

It seems that the latest debacle involving gun show purchases has people rattled. Doesn't help that someone was shot outside a Reno hospital last week.
