    A friend has #5687xxx with a type 4 slide, and I have #5668xxx with a type 5.

    Sounds like the transition stage, and I suppose either could be correct.

    Mine is Winchester 5629287 and has

    the type 4 slide.

    Mike if it's marked W and 7160091 or just the W it would be a type 5 and correct for your serial number. I suspect the W marked ones would be for the early serial numbers when first used.
