    block letters on stock

    my 1943 sa m1 has a non original(totally beeeutafulll) stock. the left side has the letters R R V D(the V is upside down)and are about 3/8 of an inch. i got this M1icon in @1992. who made it? was it part of a rebuild program?
    any help with this mystery would be appreciated. it does have a P in a square box in the right place
