Just got back from the range.
I was shooting my mosin at 60 yards from a bench with open sights, 6 o'clock hold and tired eyes. As you can see with my reduced load of 12gr. Red Dot and 135 grain Beartooth cast bullets I'm pretty much on the mark although I'm shooting slightly to the right it seems. This shows two five shot groups. The outside shots were from the first group, while the second five grouped at 3/4". I am getting some regular groups at around 1". I don't think I can do much better without a scope. I am curious what she might do topped with some glass.
I only know what I read, but I think I lucked out with my hex receiver Izzy refurb. My hats off to the folks at Beartooth Bullets for helping me choose the right load. I'm becoming a real fan of the reduced loads for plinking and target shooting up to 200 yards. Lots of shooting fun for a little bit of $$$My Mosin is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. I know she's simple and plain, but seems with a little tweeking they can be real shooters.
One last question.... Has anyone out there used their RussianMosin in a Vintage Match? Or maybe a Mosin postal match..... That would be a real blast. What do you think?
