M1D vs M1 stock
Is there any difference between the standard M1
stock and the M1D stock?
Sounds like a silly question(s) but is/are there any differences?
Either in inletting/fitting or on how the stock was dimensioned as an M1D?
Will a M1 stock allow the M1D action to fit into it without alteration?
I know the rear hand guard is different.
Front hand guard appears the same and fits from one to the other.

The stocks are the same with the execptions of stamps. The hand guards are different. An M1D hand guard is shorter than a standard rear hand guard.

M1D stock issue
I actually have 2 M1D one has CMP
and the other DCM paperwork supporting what they are. The CMP is or was a Greek return and has an unmarked, except for a very large and non circle "P" (I mean 1/2" or larger), extremely rough stock. Has many dents from having en bloc clips "seated" against. Lot of crack repairs and wood added where broken out. Definitely saw rough service and probably not original to rifle. Rear hand guard is nice and clean with no damage. Front was something whittled out of a piece of pine and about 1/4 to 1/2 oversize?
All I want to do is put together a nice stocked shooter, keep the old stock as part of the rifles history.
The DCM is very nice and was a completely rebuilt rifle raffled off back in the 70's. Came complete with scope, mount and all accessories. I am just leaving it as is and keep watch over it for the next generation! Hopefully we will be able to pass on and the next generation will honor and appreciate!
Thanks! Appreciate all the help!

I have a CMP
C and a CMP D both came with nice stocks with the DOD stamp. As far as I am concerned that is the stocks my snipers came with so they are correct for that particular rifle. If I was building a D I would want a open boxed SA with the screw holes
