Long Branch mystery mark
Well, it's a mystery to me. My 1945 No. 4 Mk. I* is mismatched, but all LB and Canadian
marked (ie. UCF magazine). The only mark that I cannot identify is the front handguard metal mark seen below.

According to "The Broad Arrow", MB 13 = Metal Box Co. That was the only MB 13 I was able to find.

Question the second. Would the Metal Box company be shipping parts to Canada or is my beloved in a replacement stock?

Some dastardly British Armourer - or ANY Armourer - has taken the first top handguard out of the tray on the shelf and fitted it to your rifle when the orginal had cracked or broken. He didn't give a brass farthing where the part was made or even new! He just wanted the rifle in, repaired and out as fast as possible.
If he'd spent time rummaging through a huge box of handguards (or cocking pieces or trigger guards or foresight blades.........) looking for a specific part, the Armourer Sergeant would have said, none too politely, words to the effect '........ oh, deary me....., what a kindly thought but I feel you might spend your time more constructively just repairing the rifle and sending it out, back to the wanting soldier....' Or words to that effect.
Seriously, we didn't even CARE about what or who made the parts........

That wasn't the worst I'd been called......... When I first joined the Army as a boy soldier/apprentice, for the first 2 years, I thought my name was '...Oi, shuddup.....'. In Australia (I've said this many times.....) I was called Pete the Pom by the whole workshops and most of the Battalion.. After 2 1/2 years, the wife of the workshop Major (she was a pom too....) asked me if it offended me. I said '.....bloody hell Marlene, it's been me for 2 1/2 years and even if it did (it didn't in the slightest...) it's too bloody late now!

That wasn't the worst I'd been called......... When I first joined the Army as a boy soldier/apprentice, for the first 2 years, I thought my name was '...Oi, shuddup.....'.
