New "Bringback" inland, need info

ok so i just traded my PTR-91 for a guy who has an Inland M1 carbine, with leather handle Bayonet, and $200 cash to me plus 200rds of ammo. i think ive made a good trade but i have some questions.soo no pics yet as i do not own camera as my wife lost our recent one

"N" front sight
"P" on adjustable rear sight
"AAI" barrel band
looks to be low rise M2 Potbelly wood stock
rounded charging handle??
older button safety
Sling
now the lower trigger guard/action is kind of loose and has some movement while in the stock, while the top does not. is this normal?
i also got $200 cash, 100rds of AE .30car
and Gun show bag of Corbon DPX .30cal probably 50 or so and mixed FMJ's
now on to the stock, its pretty worn! not destroyed or chipped, just like almost black and slick. i also got a GENUINE belt mag pouch with actually soldiers name numbers and year on it, looks to be a PFC from the 60's on the mag pouch

until i get pics PLEASE tell me what i have here and if any other marks you want to see, i believe there was a "F" under the barrel or other letters not sure, could have been on action as well. story is he bought it from a farmer 5 years back whos dad brought it back from the war, he did say fulton armory installed a new bolt and slide spring i think...didn't ask questions about it though. ran some round manually through the gun to see if it cycles and ejects, WITH SAFETY ON of course. so let me know what ya guys think

Well sounds like a mixmaster, which is pretty common. Serial 982656 most likely was made in late 1943 (Oct - Dec), although nothing is certain. The only Manufacturer who actually kept any decent records was Winchester. So most likely a 4/44 barrel is not original, but it is possible if there was some problem, reject, delay, that kind of thing. N front sight most likely correct. SG recoil plate is Saginaw. Adjustable rear site also not original. AAi is some kind of arsenal rebuild, Augusta Arsenal I think, not sure. M2 pot belly stock also not original for this serial number. If you just want a shooting gun, take it to the range and check it out, could be fine. If Fulton changed the bolt, most likely they checked the head space. If you want to restore this to correct, you will be in for a good project. Other markings to check would be Operating slide, bolt, trigger, magazine catch etc. The later rebuilt guns with adjustable sights, M2 stocks tend to be more accurate shooters. You did not say what the muzzle wear was.

have no way to check muzzle wear, atlhough it looks excellent and the bore is mirror shine with STRONG rifling, so i would say it is good, i will be shooting this on friday hopefully. my MAIN concern is the play in the bottom of the action in the stock, will getting a new stock fix that? or is there a way i can keep the stock and fix that problem? i like the stock as the black contrast adds alot of character

As far as play between the trigger housing and the receiver, that is fairly common. DO NOT TRY TO SQUEEZE THE BOTTOM EARS OF THE RECEIVER TO TIGHTEN, THEY WILL SNAP OFF! I have seen others here post here about peening the edges of the T lug on the top of the trigger guard to tighten it, so maybe one of them can chime in.

If the entire action is loose in the stock, that is a different matter. Check the recoil lug in the back of the stock. Make sure it is snugged down. make sure the barrel band is snug (not smashed down).

The CMP web page on carbines has an article on how to "hang" the receiver in the recoil lug for optimum accuracy. It works. I hung my CMP Inland in the lug and got a 25 yard group that can be just about covered with a quarter.

As for muzzle erosion, take an M2 GI 30-06 round and stick it in the muzlle. Optimum would be 1/4" or so of the projectile showing. Anything over 1/8 inch is good, though they can still shoot well with less.

well i took a .30carbine round and put it in the muzzle, about 1/3 stuck out still, so i think that would be acceptable?

No, you cannot use a 30 carbine round for this - 30-06 M2 Ball ammo only to get a measure of the muzzle wear.

I have one of these. Costs more then a 30-06 M2 ball round , but is a bit more accurate.

They're accurate, cheap when you think about it, and quick to use, even at gun show tables.

Wide range on bayonet depending on condition and photos of the carbine would help a great deal. Just from your description and whats available now on the current market, I'd say $500 - $550 for the carbine, but that's just a guess without good photos.
