Anyone Else Having WTS/WTB Problems???
I am just wondering if anyone else is having issues with members on the WTS and WTB forums? Three weeks ago, I had a member contact me regarding and item on the WTS. He made me an offer and I accepted. About a week after that, I was leaving on a trip, so I contacted him to let him know that I could mail it when I got back. Still no payment when I got home a week later. I then contacted him to let him know that I was home and could mail it out as soon as payment arrived. He replied with "thanks". Now eight days have passed with no payment and no replies to emails.
I have another transaction that looks to be going the same way.
How long does a guy give someone to pay?
I also had a brand new member that wanted an M14
rear sight. He wanted to make a partial payment up front, have me mail the part, then he would pay the rest after he had it in hand. I don't know, I don't deal like that with someone that I don't know.
Am I being unreasonable?
Anyhow, thanks for letting me go on and on.

Yes ...
Dealing over the Internet with strangers gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Caveat Emptor", both buying and selling.
I'd send him a final request and tell him politely, that if he doesn't live up to his commitment within the next 7 days, you'll make the item available to other buyers and be posting his user name and transaction details here in the Appraisals and Mediation Forum, so other members may be more cautious in dealing with his commitments. On the other hand, he may have some legitimate personal reason that he can't live up to the obligation and perhaps he's just embarrassed and afraid to tell you that, so he avoids the issue. That's a pretty common story with Internet buyers.

Absolutely not ...
If you don't know the person well enough to give them credit, which is essentially what you're doing, then it's payment up front, or move on to the next seller. Tell them it's not personal, just prudent common sense. If they don't understand that, then you've probably made the right call in the first place.
Read over the first post in the WTS/WTB forums ... CLICK HERE
If you want to be able to use an official buyer and seller feedback system to rate the quality of people you've dealt with, our formal Quartermaster Stores classifieds area is the best way to sell or buy items on our site.
It may be accessed by clicking on the button titled Classifieds on the very top navigation bar for the site. Besides permitting auctions, it creates a structured approach for all ads and permits Zip Code searching so potential buyers can check on how far a seller lives from them, the ability to supersize any images of the item being sold, a separate private messaging system which advises sellers when someone shows interest in their items, view tracking of how many readers have looked at the seller's ad, a personal watch list to track ads of interest, a separate profile for classifieds selling which is distinct from the standard profile a member may use on the regular information forums, plus many more options unique just to the Quartermaster Stores classifieds area. Essentially, this area is designed for members who engage in a lot of buying, trading, selling or auctioning of items and it is most suited to any member who is active in that area. Besides the Members (Buy & Sell), there's also a separate Dealers Buy & Sell area for commercial classified ads and auctions by dealers for milsurp firearms and accessories.
The quicker (and simpler) posting method used in the regular WTS/WTB Quick Shopper Forums is great, but it lacks any ability to post public feedback about your sale (or purchase) for other members to gauge the reliability of other members in sales transactions.
Hope this helps ..

Doug (Badger)

Hi Greg …
In response to a number of requests, including yours, we've acquired and integrated a member Classifieds feedback system called iTrader, that can be used for both the simple Guns, Parts and Accessories Quick Shopper areas titled WTS (Want to Sell) Forum and WTB (Want to Buy) Forum, as well as the more formal Quartermaster Stores classifieds area.
This will give members a clearly defined method to handle positive, negative and neutral feedback, as it pertains to both these areas. The system is really easy to use and the member's trader rating appears in both his member profile (click on use name in left panel and select "ViewProfile"), as well as you can click on the number shown in "iTrader Rating", also shown in the left panel of member's posts. It handles direct feedbacl based upon a specific ad, or can be used in a general sense without needing a link to an ad.

You might want to use this system to handle the negative experience you've had with the disappearing buyer, simply to warn other members to be careful.
Thanks for raising your issue here, as it's helped us to improve the site for everyone's benefit, particularly making the buying and selling experience more pleasant and hopefully safer.
Regards,
Doug
