How about a grenade?
I have not had occasion to pick up a Japanese
rifle. One of these days I have to.
What I do have that might be of interest here is a type 97 grenade. There was a strip of cloth attached to the safety pin. The soldier had to wind it round & round screwing down the firing pin. Then he could pull the pin and strike the fuse starter, usually on his helmet or rifle stock. (so that's where all those little dings on the butt come from-
)
How'd I come by it? In a flash of stupidity, my Dad, in the CBI in WWII< saw this dud grenade and thought it would make a neat souvenir!
So he grabs the fuse and tries to unscrew it. No luck, it was in tight. So he knelt down, braces this grenade- it's a DUD remember- and has a friend unscrew the fuse with a pair of pliers!!!

Obviously, everything went well. Sheesh! Dad was a hunter and shooter. You'd have thought he'd have known better. Anyway, he's gone now and has been for more than 20yrs. I keep thinking of new questions...
Anyway, for your interest and to commemorate my Dad, I submit these pics.

Come the day I seek a rifle to keep it company, just what version, variation- model- other? would be appropriate for the CBI from 43-45?
Thanks y'all.

No knowledge, but...
It is neat to hear about the experiences of others.
Interesting is the fact that this is the first"bring back" explosive device I seen.
Thanks for posting.
