Serial Nunbers
I have a quick question.......why is it when somebody shows a gun they block out the serial number or they type XXXXXX or a few digits and XXXXX? I see it all the time and just wondered why. I dont ever do this and wondered if I should.
Thanks in advance!!
Scott

Some people seem to think that by putting a serial number out there that someone can claim that it's their gun and get law enforcement involved. I suppose this could be possible, I've never heard anyone every say they've heard of this happening.
As the collector and collator of the Long Branch serial number list, I can tell you that ten serial numbers like 32L12XX are close to worthless, and ten like 32L1XXX are!

In most cases I believe in not giving information away. I do not trust our government, let alone any other government to not use the internet as a data mine.
Kind of paranoid but events have shown it's not wise to make it too easy.

Ive read that because Enfield only had 4 digits in their serial number and used a rotation system that from 1915 most Enfields had a twin with the same serial number same year.and by 1917 all letter/numbers were allocated twice and just under 50% allocated 3 times.
So i can imagine how somebody could make a claim on a gun with the paper work to prove it.
