WW2 SA SPG stock rebuild
SA SPG stock rebuild/conversion to use the trapdoor buttplate, note the gap at the toe of the stock. Later conversions were like production trapdoor stocks. Only additional marking is the second P proof (gas port barrel ?) Also note the red markings to indicate the conversion area.Attachment 17869Attachment 17870Attachment 17871Attachment 17872

Is that gap because the butt plate had a slight curve to it? I've never seen any of the "no trap" stocks in person. I saw good photos of a Winchester no trap but that was years ago. Do you have photos of one with the no trap butt plate? Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! Is that a production stock blank? I do see the slight curve to the plate. Thanks

Mostly because the side flange on the new plate is higher. If the step in the stock is not recut, the plate sits up too high. On many reclaimed stocks you can see the outlne of the old shallow step half way down the newly cut step.

Most WRA / WB stocks were the no trap type, but just before the GHD series some were made for the trap door butt plate. The way to tell a factory trap door WB stock from a no trap that has been modified for the trap door, is by measuring the over all length. The modified stock will be about 1/8" shorter because they were cut back a little bit to avoid the gap shown in Robert's first set of pics.
