standard or heavy barrel?

Advisory Panel
If you're going to do any sort of target rifle bedding, then its really down to your own experimentation.
If you want standard military bedding, then the forend fit is similar to the No4 - at least at the back end as far forward as the barrel chamber. Since a No1 barrel tends to rely on the inner band, spring stud and nosecap to control its movement, I find the fit of the wood forward of the chamber is less critical than on a No4. Usual procedure for me is to use talcum powder to provide witness marks for the forend fit, and generally check & adjust the barrel channel & handguards to remove any high points outside of the normal bearing positions. When test-firing and tuning a No1, its the inner band tension and nosecap fit that appear to have by far the greatest influence on group size.

I've searched our article indexes but haven't spotted anything close ...
Thanks for any tips ...

Fitting a Fore End Correctly
Also, for DEEP searches, try our new Google CSE (Custom Search Engine) which is located at the top right corner of the forums, just under the standard search box. It's a piece of custom code from Google that just searches Milsurps.Com posts and threads, including the archive.
To be honest, I've never been thrilled with vBulletin's built-in search capability, particularly the 4 character minimum and the fact that it often behaves "quirky" with certain characters such as periods and slashes etc.
I find Google's capabilities much better, plus they don't have any problems with either the number of characters being searched on, or the special type of characters I mentioned above.
So, give it a try and you might find some really interesting old threads with content about topics you either never knew about or had forgotten.
Hope that helps Roger …
Regards,
Doug

Sorry TBone, I was a bit slow, its an H barrel, which brings me back to my own to and fros about what bedding method would be best for the barrel end. My initial query here was about the proper fitting of the draws end of everything so its almost two questions in one. I have a fultons rifle with a stock barrel and the overstrap and 3 extra internal springs that appear to dampen barrel vibrations, and I like the mechanical set up of that, however whether thats ideal for an H barrel I'm not sure. I have asked here about H barrel bedding before and have some good advice there, I just need to go back and re read everyones comments and think it over. I'm looking at setting this rifle up as there's a shooting event being planned in feb I'd like to take part in. Be nice to settle down to some serious paper perforating.
