I have a Springfield 1903 sporter that is a good shooter. It has previously been drilled for a scope and a peep sight. I would appreciate some help with this rifle and I have attached some photos.
As you can see from the photos, it has a Lyman ramp sight base on the front of the barrel. There are no markings on the barrel other than what looks like ( ) in two places.
My questions are (1) whether the barrel is nonmiliary. which it seems, (2) whether it appears to have a contour that could not be restored to semi-original 1903 configuration, and (3) whether the front sight ramp can be removed without damaging the barrel?
My alternatives are to try to work with this barrel or purchase a replacement--my goal is to create something that would be a sniper equavalent for shooting.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.
