The first Fg-42 (BD-42) first generation rifle is now in Canada. It is pending RCMP approval before we get to see them on the shelves. Only 20 or so are being imported into Canada. 50 overall have been made.
These rifles are VERY cool. I haven't been this excited about a new rifle, ever. Way out of my price range, but I find myself thinking of little else.
They come with proper 20 round mags, pinned of course, as well as a zf4 optic mount, which slides onto the top of the receiver, and sits on top of the rear iron sights. The sights fold down, much like the front sight on a MG34.
The integrated bi-pod and bayonet, and the overall ergonomics are very interesting. Feels very good and controlable in your shoulder, and the length of pull is also easy to used to. Your oppsite hand is so close to your shooting hand that it feels similar to a Tavor in terms of feel. The sight picture is very different from what we usually see on Germanfirearms.
Overall, getting to fondle a rifle you usually only get to see in museums is a rare and special occasion. Getting to shoot one on a regular basis would be something else, thats for certain.
I'm not going to post any pictures, nor comment on who's bringing them in, or the exact retail price. As I dont want to burden the importer before the RCMP has done their part.
But, I thought I'd share the excitement with my fellow milsurp collectors. As I find this rifle one of the most exciting new items that I have ever seen.
It's not like you get to handle a fg42 everyday... We'll, most of us dont
