Could someone help me please!
I have my first Krag
I am learning a little as I go but would really appreciate it if someone could do a SRS search on my rifle for me thanks.

No hit in SRS. Your rifle started out as a M1892. Has it been altered to the M1892/96 configuration by filling in the cleaning rod groove?

Chances are your rifle was in Cuba and probably the Philippines as well. There were not enough Krags to equip the troops in '98 and almost all of them went to front-line regular units. The rifles that went to Cuba got pretty wet and a lot of them, maybe most, got arsenal refurbed. That would involve a new sight, maybe a restock, maybe a reblue. these are signs, IMHO of a rifle that was used hard in combat and put away wet. If it still has the early sights, more likely it was in service stateside during the SAW, or possibly shipboard.
